This necklace is designed with a 1780’s silver coin depicting “Empress Maria Theresa” on the front and a double headed eagle of the “Holy Roman Empire” on the back. This is one of the mores circulated currencies the world has ever known. These coins (Thaler) were often used as jewelry as well as currency, a credit to Maria Theresa’s attention to aesthetic design. Maria Theresa ruled over the Habsburg Empire (Austria) in the eighteenth century for forty years. Her matronly portrait graces the coin, along with her abbreviated Latin titles.
